Speech/Articulation

Speech consists of the sounds used to produce a message.  The correct production of these sounds determines whether our message can be understood when heard by others.  Sounds may be produced incorrectly, or the rate, inflection, or the melody of speech might be effected.

Language

Expressive language consists of words, sentences, and phrases used to produce a message.

Receptive Language consists of how well a message is understood.

Some children may have a challenges with both expressive language and receptive language, as well as a speech disorder/delay.  Every child is different.

AAC

AAC stands for alternative augmentative communication.  This usually means that a child is experiencing significant challenges with either speech or language, or both.  In these cases, it is helpful to explore different means of communicating so that the child can develop a language base while working towards developing verbal/oral communication.
